The useful unit is a revision
Most working writers do not need an autonomous author. They need help tightening a sentence, changing tone, removing ambiguity, or finding a clearer structure.
Context lives in the destination
The email thread, document, support reply, or project update already contains social and operational context. Editing in place keeps that context visible to the person making the decision.
Latency changes behavior
When a rewrite requires another tab, a copied paragraph, a prompt, and a pasted result, people reserve it for large tasks. A short shortcut makes small improvements worth doing.
Judgment stays with the writer
Generated text can be inaccurate, overconfident, or tonally wrong. The person sending the message must review facts, intent, audience, and consequence.
Boundaries are product features
A writing assistant should explain what it reads, when text is transmitted, what is retained, and how access is revoked. Convenience without a legible boundary is not a complete experience.
The interface should recede
Successful assistance ends with the user back in the sentence—not managing a conversation with the tool. The product has done its job when the thought keeps moving.
